Microbial Analysis

The microbiology laboratory provides services to clients in the areas of Product Safety, Product Quality, Personnel Hygiene, Equipment Hygiene and Environmental Hygiene.
Routine microbiological QC for batch release and shelf-life: aerobic plate counts (TPC), yeast & mould, Enterobacteriaceae, total coliforms/faecal coliforms and Staphylococcus aureus, plus tailored indicator panels. Results support product release decisions, trend analysis and HACCP verification so you can demonstrate ongoing process control and shelf-life claims.

Accredited enumeration, detection and confirmation of foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes/Listeria spp., E. coli and Clostridium perfringens. Analyses are designed to meet regulatory, retailer or customer-specific requirements and provide defensible, traceable results for investigations and product release.

Drinking and process-water testing to SANS 241 and bespoke panels: E. coli, total coliforms, heterotrophic plate counts (HPC) and Faecal Coliforms. Useful for potable water compliance, borehole monitoring and process-water control to protect product safety and consumer health.

Planned wet/dry swabs and sponges across food-contact and non-contact surfaces, conveyors and drains; tested for TPC, Enterobacteriaceae, coliforms and Listeria spp. Programs are designed for routine monitoring, hotspot investigation and root-cause analysis to strengthen GMP’s and reduce recall risk.

Fingertip impressions or hand swabs to quantify the number of colonies and screen for S.aureus/E.coli/coliforms (and specific organisms where required). Use for hygiene audits, training validation and as part of pre-employment or corrective action programs to demonstrate personnel controls.

Passive settle plates sampling to quantify viable airborne organisms in production and packaging areas. Data support cleanroom classification, trend monitoring and contamination investigations, helping you maintain the required airborne microbial profile for your process.
Testing of food-grade compressed air to industry standards: viable microbiological counts plus Total yeast and air borne mould counts. We help you verify air quality at point-of-use to prevent contamination of product and packaging and to meet customer / GMP specifications.
Controlled inoculation studies to measure growth or inactivation of target pathogens or spoilage organisms under defined storage conditions. Challenge tests validate preservative systems and process lethality, and are designed to regulatory / industry guidance for defensible shelf-life and safety claims.
Targeted surface swabs on PPE, incoming packaging and packaging materials for total microbial load and hygiene indicators. Ideal for supplier control, incoming QA checks and to prevent transfer of contamination from packaging to product.
