Packaging
We assess packaging safety and performance for food-contact and non-food applications. Our testing covers migration, contamination, material integrity and regulatory requirements so you can be confident of your packaging protecting product quality, consumer safety and compliance.
Total Migration & Extractables Testing
We measure total migration from inks, adhesives and materials into simulants (ethanol, acetic acid, vegetable oil, etc.) to quantify extractables to ensure the packaging won’t transfer harmful residues into your product.
Microbiology Testing on Packaging
Microbiological testing of packaged products detects contamination that may originate from packaging. We test finished packaging samples for spoilage organisms and pathogens to confirm pack integrity and safety.
Environmental & Surface Swab Testing
Surface and equipment swabs on packaging lines, filling heads and packaging materials, plus air settle plates and compressed-air testing, identify hygiene hotspots. Results guide corrective actions to prevent airborne or contact transfer of contaminants to packaging and product.
Water / Contact Liquid Analysis for Packaging
Analysis of rinse, wash and contact liquids used in packaging (e.g., wash water, condensate) for microbial and chemical contaminants, to ensure liquids in contact with packaging meet safety expectations.
Carrier Bag Thickness by Gravimetric Analysis
Gravimetric thickness testing for plastic carrier bags follows SANS 4591 and NRCS requirements, verifying minimum material mass/film thickness to meet statutory strength and compliance criteria.
Carrier Bag Density According to ISO 1183
Density and specific gravity testing (ISO 1183) confirms material composition and supports PCR-content and performance specifications required under SANS 695:2021 and related NRCS regulations.
Phthalates Screening (Plasticisers)
Targeted screening for phthalates and plasticisers in packaging materials to ensure restricted compounds are below regulatory thresholds and safe for food-contact and consumer goods.
Pesticide Residue Screening on Packaging
Pesticide analysis on packaging surfaces and incoming materials detects residues that could transfer to food – useful for supplier control and traceability in raw material sourcing.
Dioxins & PCBs (Persistent Organic Pollutants)
High-sensitivity testing for dioxins and PCBs in packaging matrices to rule out persistent organic contaminants that pose long-term health and regulatory risks.
